• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

How do we know that we are saved?

First question is, what is salvation? Simply speaking, salvation means that a person is saved before God. Legally speaking, it includes forgiveness of sins, propitiation, reconciliation to God, sanctification, justification, and free from perdition. Organically speaking, it begins with regeneration, receiving the eternal life of God, the Holy Spirit and the seal, and becoming a child of God, continues with daily washing and cleansing by His blood, daily sanctification, daily transformation, and daily renewal, and ends with final conformation, and eternal glorification.

  • The Outward Proof—The Proof by the Bible Without
    1. “He who believes and is baptized shall be saved,” (Mark 16:16) was spoken by the Lord Jesus Himself.
    2. “For, whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,” (Rom. 10:13), was written by Apostle Paul.
    3. “He who hears My word and believes Him [the heavenly Father] who sent Me has eternal life, and will not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” (John 5:24) which is said by Lord Jesus with full assurance.
    4. “He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you that you may know that you have eternal life, to you who believe in the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:12-13) which is testified by Apostle John.
    5. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave authority to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born…of God.” (John 1:12-13) which is also testified by Apostle John, indicating that the Lord Jesus gives to those who receive and believe Him by faith the authority to become children of God. This authority is the life of God, enabling those who believe into the Lord Jesus to be born of God, that is, to be regenerated to become children of God. This is also proven by the words of the Bible and not determined by human feelings.

Standing on the sure and unchanging Scripture, we have full confidence and assurance that who have repent to and believe into Him have received eternal salvation and sonship. We have to realize this fact and not by our fluctuating feelings.

  • The Inward Proof—The Proof by the Holy Spirit in Our Spirit
    1. “For you have not received a spirit of slavery bringing you into fear again, but you have received a spirit of sonship in which we cry, Abba, Father! The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are the children of God” (Rom. 8:16).
    2. “Even the Spirit of reality, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him; but you know Him, because He abides with you and shall be in you.” (John 14:17) indicates that the Holy Spirit is in us and with us eternally.
    3. “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.” (1 Cor. 6:17)
    4. “And the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God’s Son, entered into us and witnesses in our spirit that we are born of God, the children of God, with God’s life. This is the inward proof of our salvation.

  • The Proof of Love- Once we are born of God, we receive the life of God which is also the life of love, God is love (1 John 4:16), and the life of God is also the life of love. Therefore, everyone who is begotten of God loves God and loves him who has been begotten of God, him who is a brother in the Lord.
    1. “Since you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned brotherly love, love one another from a pure heart fervently.” (1 Peter 1:22)
    2. “We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love abides in death.” (1 John 3:14)
    3. “In this we know love, that He laid down His life on our behalf, and ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers.”
    4. “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been begotten of God, and everyone who loves Him who begets, loves him who has been begotten of Him.” (1 John 5:1).

This word states that, as believers, our love for the brothers in the Lord is a proof that we have God’s eternal life. Loving the brothers in the Lord is an experience in the eternal life of God after our believing and salvation. There is an unspeakable joy and loving feeling when a saved person sees a brother in the Lord. This brotherly love in the Lord is also a solid proof for us to know that we have been saved. This is called the proof of love.

Therefore, whether it is by the definite word of the Bible, by the witnessing of the Holy Spirit in our spirit, or by our experience of love in life, we know assuredly that we are saved. Furthermore, the salvation that we have received is an eternal salvation (Heb. 5:9). Once we have received this salvation, we shall by no means perish forever, and no one can snatch us out of the Lord’s and the heavenly Father’s hands (John 10:28-29).
