anti-christ: The Beast out of the sea

All the various aspects of Antichrist are revealed to us in detail in Daniel, Revelation, and 2 Thessalonians. Almost nothing in Revelation is new, and nearly all the items are mentioned in the Old Testament.

I. THE FOURTH BEAST IN DANIEL 7

  1. Dreadful and Terrible- Dan. 7:7, 19
  2. Strong Exceedingly- Dan 7:7
  3. Having Great Iron Teeth and Brass Nails- Dan7:7,19
  4. Devouring the Whole Earth and Breaking It in Pieces- Dan. 7:7, 19, 23
  5. Stamping the Residue with Its Feet- Dan. 7:7, 19, 23
  6. Having Ten Horns- Dan. 7:7, 20, 24
  7. Having a Little Horn coming up among the Ten Horns

The fourth beast has a little horn—Antichrist—coming up among the ten horns (Dan. 7:8, 20, 24-26). Antichrist will bud out of one of the ten horns.

  • Having Eyes like the Eyes of Man- Dan. 7:8, 20
  • Having a Mouth Speaking Great Words against the Most High- Dan7:8, 20, 25: He will be arrogant in utterance and speak blasphemous words against God.
  • Having an Appearance More Stout than His Fellows- Dan. 7:20: When he appears, we shall be able to recognize him easily.
  • Making War with the Saints and prevailing against Them- Daniel 7:21: He will persecute the God-fearing Jews and the Christ-believing Christians.
  • Wearing Out the Saints for Three and a Half Years- Dan7:25
  • Attempting to Change Times and Laws- Dan7:25
  • His Dominion to Be Taken Away- Dan7:26
  • Being Consumed and Destroyed

II. THE LITTLE HORN IN DANIEL 8

  1. Out of One of the Four Horns of the Goat
  2. Growing Exceedingly Great toward the South, toward the East, and toward the Beautiful Land
  3. Growing Great Even to the Host of Heaven
  4. Casting Down Some of the Host and of the Stars to the Earth and Stamping upon Them
  5. Magnifying Himself even to the Prince of the Host- Dan8:11
  6. Taking Away the Continual Sacrifice
  7. He will stop the worship of God by the Jews.
  8. Casting Down the Place of the Sanctuary of the Prince of the Host: He will destroy the temple of God. It also implies that the temple will be rebuilt.
  9. Casting Down the Truth to the Ground- Dan8:12: He will renounce, abolish and tear down every truth to the uttermost.
  10. Doing Great Things and Prospering: Marvelous and wonderful practices.
  11. Having a Fierce Countenance:  antichrist’s appearance will be stout, overpowering.
  1. Understanding Dark Sentences: These dark sentences will be riddles, deceitful words of double and ambiguous meanings.
  2. His Power Being Mighty but Not by His Own Power: antichrist’s power will be the power of Satan.
  3. Destroying Marvelously: Antichrist will destroy to an extraordinary degree, such as cities and nations.
  4. Destroying the Mighty and Holy People
  5. Cunning and Crafty
  6. Destroying Many in Their Security
  7. Being Broken without Hand: antichrist will be broken by Christ, not by any human hand.

III. THE PRINCE IN DANIEL

  1. Both Titus and Antichrist Destroying Jerusalem and the Temple
  2. Confirming the Covenant with the Jews for One Week
  3. In the Middle of the Week Stopping the Sacrifice and the Oblation
  4. As the Desolator setting up Abominations in the Temple
  5. Destroyed by God’s Wrath

IV. THE KING IN DANIEL 11

  1. Typified by Antiochus Epiphanes
  2. Exalting and Magnifying Himself above Every God and Speaking Marvelous Things against the God of Gods
  3. Honoring the God of Fortresses
  4. Increasing with Glory Those Who Acknowledge Him, Causing Them to Rule over Many and Dividing the Land for a Reward
  5. Entering into the Countries, Overflowing, and Passing Over
  6. Entering into the Beautiful Land
  7. Planting the Tents of His Palace between the Seas and the Beautiful Holy Mountain
  8. Coming to His End and None Helping Him

V. LIKE A LEOPARD

  1. The Symbol of the Third Beast in Daniel 7
  2. His Feet as Those of a Bear, the Symbol of the Second Beast in Daniel 7
  3. His Mouth as That of a Lion, the Symbol of the First Beast in Daniel 7
  4. Coming out of the Sea: Geographically, out of “the Great Sea,” the Mediterranean. Symbolically, out of the Gentile World
  5. Having Ten Horns and Seven Heads:
    • The Same as the Dragon
    • First, ten kings in 17:12 are signified by the ten diadems on the ten horns. Secondly, ten kingdoms are symbolized by the ten toes of the great image in Daniel 2:42-44.
  6. Seven Heads: The seven heads of the beast are seven Caesars of the Roman Empire signified by the seven diadems on the seven heads (12:3).

VI. THE ANGEL OF THE ABYSS

  1. Coming up out of the Abyss
  2. The King of the Army of the Demon-possessed Locusts
  3. Abaddon and Apollyon

VII. THE MAN OF SIN

  1. The Lawless One
  2. The Son of Destruction
  3. Opposing God and Exalting Himself above God
  4. Sitting in the Temple of God Showing Himself That He Is God
  5. Coming after the Working of Satan with All Power, Signs, and Lying Wonders and with Deceit of Unrighteousness
  6. The Mystery of Lawlessness Now Being Restrained
  7. Being Consumed by the Lord with the Breath of His Mouth and Destroyed with the Brightness of His Coming

VIII. HAVING THE POWER AND AUTHORITY OF SATAN

IX. BEING KILLED AND RESUSCITATED

  1. Killed as the Coming Seventh Caesar of the Roman Empire
  2. Resuscitated with the Spirit of the Fallen Fifth Caesar—Nero—to Be the Eighth Caesar

X. RECEIVING THE POWER, AUTHORITY, AND KINGDOM OF THE TEN KINGS

XI. ACTING FORTY-TWO MONTHS

  1. Speaking Great Things and Blaspheming God, His Tabernacle, and Those Who Tabernacle in Heaven
  2. Fighting and Overcoming the Saints
  3. Fighting and Killing the Two Witnesses
  4. Ruling over Every Tribe, People, Tongue, and Nation
  5. Being Marveled After by the Whole Earth and Worshipped with an Image by All Those Dwelling on the Earth
  6. Hating the Apostate Roman Church, Making Her Desolate, and Burning Her Utterly

XII. FIGHTING THE LORD AND BEING DEFEATED, DESTROYED,AND CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE BY THE LORD
