• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

    As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

    May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

2:4 看哪,自高自大的人,心不正直;只是义人必本于信得生。
See, he who is puffed up, his soul is not upright within him, But the righteous one will live by his faith.
1:17 因为神的义在这福音上,本于信显示与信,如经上所记:“义人必本于信得生并活着。”
For the righteousness of God is revealed in it out of faith to faith, as it is written, “But the righteous shall have life and live by faith.”

3:11 没有一个人凭着律法在神面前得称义,乃是明显的,因为“义人必本于信得生并活着;”
And that by law no one is justified before God is evident because, “The righteous one shall have life and live by faith”;

10:38a 只是我的义人必本于信活着;
But My righteous one shall live by faith;

Although being a small prophetic book, Habakkuk contains one golden verse, “the righteous one will live by his faith,” and Paul quoted this verse three times in the New Testament. While Hebrews was speaking to the believers in general, Romans used this verse to emphasize on “live”, and Galatians on faith.

I would like to use this context to point out one important aspect of Christian experience, that is we Christians need to learn to live by faith, not by feelings, not by outward situations, and not by others’ attitude toward you.

I believe all Christians have peaks and valleys of spiritual experiences, and we often experience temporary, cyclic, and fluctuating feelings. Sometimes we may feel so joyful that we feel like we are in God’s presence or in the heavens, and sometimes we may feel so dry and down that we feel God has forsaken us, or we were walking through the valley of death. The fact is, however, that God never left us, or changed, the grace and blessings we received from God are not diminished, and the spiritual life we have grown was not reduced.

So why would we have such fluctuating feelings? It is because of God’s mighty hands.
First of all, God wants to teach to live not for ourselves, not pursuing spiritual highness, not for our own satisfaction. Secondly, God wants us to exercise our will to seek, pursue, and find Him. We need to pray regardless of our inner condition, and we need to read the words regardless our emotional up-and-down. Thirdly, God wants to teach us to overcome the outward situations, and start to live by faith. Our outward situation may go well or bad, yet our relationship and fellowship with the Lord is deep and unshakable.
