• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

The First Rebellion

14:12 明亮之星,清晨之子阿,你何竟从天坠落!你这攻败列国的,何竟被砍倒在地上!
How you have fallen from heaven, O Daystar, son of the dawn! How you have been hewn down to earth, You who made nations fall prostrate!
14:13-14 你心里曾说,我要升到天上;我要高举我的宝座在神众星以上。我要坐在聚会的山上,在北方的极处。我要升到高云之上;我要使自己与至高者一样。
But you, you said in your heart: I will ascend to heaven; Above the stars of God I will exalt my throne. And I will sit upon the mount of assembly In the uttermost parts of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.

But you will be brought down to Sheol, To the uttermost parts of the pit. Those who see you will gaze at you; They will ponder concerning you, asking, Is this the man who made the earth tremble, The one who shook kingdoms; Who made the world like a wilderness And tore down its cities; Who did not release his captives to their homes? All the kings of the nations, All of them, lie in glory, Each in his own house. But you have been thrown out away from your tomb, Like some shoot that is viewed with disgust; Or like the garments of the slain, of those pierced with the sword, Who go down to the stones of the pit; Like a corpse that has been trampled under. You shall not be united with them in burial, For you have destroyed your land, You have slain your people; The seed of evildoers Will never be renowned.

Everyone knows this part refers to the prior Lucifer and the later Satan. This short paragraph has 3 parts: the first part mentioned the origin and status of Satan before his rebellion, who was created as the archangel, probably the greatest and most mighty one among all creation, and the third part mentioned God’s condemnation and judgment on Him.

The more interesting part is the second, which described his words in his rebellion. Satan’s rebellion, which is far before Adam’s fall, was probably one of the most significant events in the universe. This rebellion reconfigured or messed up the order of the universe, then caused the fall of creation and humanity, and later God’s redemption and restoration.

But I want to explore the mentality and thoughts behind his rebellion, which lies in the five “I will.”

  • I will ascend to heaven above the stars of God
  • I will exalt my throne
  • I will sit upon the mount of assembly In the uttermost parts of the north
  • I will ascend above the heights of the clouds
  • I will make myself like the Most High

All these “I will” conclude one thing, which is his desire to have the same status of God. (He would even desire to be higher than God for that is illogical.)

What constitutes the first rebellion, or the first fall? It is the independence and separation from God, not any evil indeeds or evil intentions. It is because the independence and separation from God that lead him or fallen humanity into all the cascaded sin, sins, troubles, and corruptions. What is the single most critical factor in this rebellious mentality? It is the pride. It is not because Satan was cunning or evil that made him Satan, but his pride did. And pride leads to envy, arrogance, greed, arrogance, manipulating, etc.

My point is this: many people may think as long as they do not do sinful things, they are not sinners, and therefore they are not in need of God or God’s salvation. But actually it is simply because their separation from God that constitutes the original sin, and all other sins and corruptions follow.

Moreover, if Satan represents the separation from God, then there is not middle field between God and Satan. We are either with God or we with Satan. Those who declare to be neither for God nor Satan will end up being Satan’s prey or captive. There are only 2 types of people: God-centered or not-God-centered. Any self-centered people will end up being Satan’s slave. A little scary, but not exaggerating at all.
