• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

What is bracketing?

Bracketing is a synonym to epoche. In phenomenology, it means suspension of preconceptions, interpretations, and explanations as a precondition for the experience and description of uninterpreted sense experiences and ideas.

Bracketing is essentially the discipline of achieving stable balance among self-affirmation and self-denial so as to attain greater and newer knowledge by not pre-interpreting, prejudicing, or hypothesizing the sensible world.

Why bracketing?

We need to surpass every self-centered and experience-based concept. Genuine mature consciousness appears only after eliminating all the prejudices due to personal experiences. Since we always allow our past experiences, current needs, and future expectations to determine our perceptions, our every present moment becomes the repetition of our past experiences. To save us from this pitfall, we need to remove the familiarity, and purse the freshness. In order to fully appreciate the uniqueness of every new experience and to allow strange people and novel matters to enter into our perception, we need to bracket out prejudice and emotion for a prolonged period of time.
