Prophecies concerning the genealogy and origin of Jesus Christ and their fulfillments

The Old Testament is filled with types and prophecies. Typologically speaking, the center and focus of the entire Old Testament is actually Jesus Christ the Son, the second of the Trinity. Prophetically speaking, all the prophecies in the Old Testament concerning His first coming and His incarnation have been fully fulfilled, and all the rest are and will be fulfilled in the time to come.

The genealogy of Jesus Christ is of great significance. We need to see that our Lord Jesus Christ is the complete God and the perfect Man, fully divine and fully human. Any teachings the deny His humanity is as heretic as those that deny His divinity. His genealogy is especially important for demonstrating His origin as the Son of Man in various aspects. Bless this fact! So many prominent figures, holy items, and blessed promises all pointed to, merged into, and fulfilled in this marvelous God-Man, our Lord Jesus Christ!

To balance a little bit, we also need to be cautious not to pay too much attention to genealogies, but to God’s New Testament economy, just as Paul exhorted Timothy “to remain in Ephesus in order that you might charge certain ones not to teach different things Nor to give heed to myths and unending genealogies, which produce questionings rather than God’s economy, which is in faith.” (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

Concerning His genealogy

The Seed of the woman
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman And between your seed and her seed; He will bruise you on the head, But you will bruise him on the heel.

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under law,

  • Born of a virgin

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and will bear a son, and she will call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel” (which is translated, God with us).

Luke 1:26-35
And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, To a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, Rejoice, you who have been graced! The Lord is with you. And she was greatly troubled at this saying and began reasoning what kind of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to Him the throne of David His father, And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end. But Mary said to the angel, How will this be, since I have not known a man? And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore also the holy thing which is born will be called the Son of God.
