As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

My historical sense and heritage as a Christian

Hebrews 11:32-40 And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, Who through faith overcame kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong in weakness, became mighty in war, routed the armies of foreigners. Women received their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured to death, not accepting deliverance, in order that they might obtain a better resurrection. And still others underwent the trial of mockings and scourgings, even, moreover, of bonds and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they died by the murder of the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, destitute, afflicted, ill treated (Of whom the world was not worthy), wandering over deserts and mountains and in caves and holes of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good testimony through their faith, did not obtain the promise, Because God has provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

Hebrews 12:18-24 For you have not come forward to a mountain which could be touched and which was set on fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind, And to the sound of a trumpet and to the voice of words, because of which those who heard entreated that no further word be spoken to them; For they could not bear that which was being commanded: “If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned.” And so fearful was the sight, Moses said, “I am full of fear and trembling.” But you have come forward to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem; and to myriads of angels, to the universal gathering; And to the church of the firstborn, who have been enrolled in the heavens; and to God, the Judge of all; and to the spirits of righteous men who have been made perfect; And to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant; and to the blood of sprinkling, which speaks something better than that of Abel.

I am a human being, created by God.
As a human being, I am a Christian.
As a Christian, I love and serve my God and my Lord.
As a loving Christian, I desire that His will be done according to His pleasure.
As a serving Christian, I desire to be part of His move according to the vision.

As a Christian, I am a member of the universal and unique church,
As a member of the church, I am part of a group of two-thousand-old legacy,
in which are all the apostles, ministers, priests, and prophets of the new covenant.
Historically, we were first called Christians in Antioch. (Acts 11:26)
Geographically, we have been spreading throughout the entire inhabitant earth.

Throughout the past two thousand years, genuine Christians,
regardless races, nationalities, languages, cultures, and practices, are
called by the name of Jesus and saved by Christ,
confessing that He is the Lord and His name is above every name.

Throughout the ages, genuine Christian, for their faith, have been
mistreated, prosecuted, despised, shamed, and even slaughtered.
Yet nothing can turn us away from the path and choice, and
nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.

We are called and we go out by faith

All Christians share this sense of being called. Before our salvation, we are of various races, nationalities, and backgrounds, having different cultures and tradition. We are not worthy of His calling, yet the Lord, out of His mercy and grace, redeemed us and called us out of  darkness and the world into light and the kingdom. By faith, we go out and enter the divine oneness and fellowship in Him.

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, being called, obeyed to go out unto a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

We are sojourners on the earth, seeking a better and heavenly country

All genuine Christians feel they are mere sojourners or travelers on the earth. We don’t belong to this world, yet we are sent to the world as His messengers for His purpose on the earth. We, under His sovereignty,  are all on a journey God has arranged for each one of us. By believing in God’s promises and by hoping the things to come, we wait and long for a better and heavenly home that God has prepared for us.

Hebrews 11:9 By faith he dwelt as a foreigner in the land of promise as in a foreign land, making his home in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise;

Hebrews 11:13-16 All these died in faith, not receiving the promises but seeing them from afar and joyfully greeting them and confessing that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth. For those who say such things make it manifest that they seek after a country of their own. And if indeed they continued to remember that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return; But as it is, they long after a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

We have many faithful and encouraging patterns before and around us

Throughout the ages, God has prepared and gained a group of people as His unique possession for His purpose and satisfaction. We are in the group that Apostle Paul, Peter, and John are in. We are in the same fellowship that Martin Luther, Madame Guyon, Darby, John Calvin are in. We are in the very same church that all Christian are in. We are not only  surrounded by many patterns that we may run with encouragements but also led in the direction toward which many of the faithful ones have run.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore let us also, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, put away every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and run with endurance the race which is set before us,

We bear a profound and holy charge with fear and trembling

Christians bear the charge that God has predestined and determined to fulfill upon the human race. Men have failed God again and again throughout the ages. Today the genuine and overcoming Christians should be those who see the heavenly vision and realize that we bear a profound charge that has been passed on over the centuries and now unto our present generation. If we see how holy and divine the charge that our God has commanded is, we shall be full of fear and trembling before God.

Hebrew 12:18-20 For you have not come forward to a mountain which could be touched and which was set on fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind, And to the sound of a trumpet and to the voice of words, because of which those who heard entreated that no further word be spoken to them; For they could not bear that which was being commanded: “If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned.”

We have a race to run and have a war to fight

Christian life is a journey, which doesn’t end until our Lord releases us. The Christian pursuit cannot be mere an impulsive decision based on some temporary or emotional swings but a life long commitment. We need to get rid of all of the earthly and worldly entanglements and sins to run, with endurance, the race which is set before us. Also, we cannot pursue in a casual but in a serious way. We need to be on our guard at all time and be reminded that our wrestling is not against blood and flesh but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenlies.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight; I have finished the course; I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, with which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will recompense me in that day, and not only me but also all those who have loved His appearing.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore let us also, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, put away every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and run with endurance the race which is set before us,

We are a spectacle to the world

Every human being on Earth has heard of us, and history  and civilizations testify our existence. Throughout the ages, we have been afflicted, prosecuted, despised, reproached, ashamed, imprisoned, and even slaughtered. People think we are crazy, shameful, yet mysterious, we call ourselves Christians.

1 Corinthians 4:9 For, I think, God has set forth us the apostles last of all as doomed to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.

Hebrews 10:33 On one hand, being made a spectacle both in reproaches and in afflictions, and on the other, having become partakers with those who are treated the same.

We suffer

Suffering is and shall be a common trait to all Christians. Suffering facilitates our growth in life, strengthens our hearts, and proves our faith. It is not in the smooth and successful but in the tough and difficult days that we truly experience and enjoy the Lord as our supply, joy, strength, comfort, and provisions in every way. We are definitely not suffering freaks, but we lay hold of every opportunity to turn to Him and give Him the opportunity to work Himself into our being.

Hebrew, 1137-38 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they died by the murder of the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, destitute, afflicted, ill treated (Of whom the world was not worthy), wandering over deserts and mountains and in caves and holes of the earth.

1 Peter 4:15-16 For let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler into others’ affairs; But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name.

We are witnesses and martyrs

Throughout the ages, countless faithful believers shed their blood and died for their beloved Lord and Master. They didn’t die in vain, but with weight and glory, testify the sweet love and supreme preciousness of our Lord. When living, they are the living martyrs; when dead, dead witnesses. At the day of the Lord, our Master who is holy and true will judge and avenge our blood.

Revelation 6:9-11 And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and because of the testimony which they had. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Master, holy and true, will You not judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth? And to each of them was given a white robe; and it was said to them that they should rest yet a little while, until also the number of their fellow slaves and their brothers who were about to be killed, even as they were, is completed.
