May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And Jehovah said, Arise; anoint him, for this is he. And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers, and the Spirit of Jehovah rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Not only those who were honored with the high priesthood, who were anointed with the holy anointing oil and adorned with the name of Christ among the Hebrews, but also the kings whom were anointed by the prophets under the influence of the divine Spirit, and thus constituted as christs in type and symbol. For they also bore in themselves types of the royal and sovereign power of the true and only Christ.

Both Isaiah and David addressed Him, saying, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of exultant joy above Your partners” Here the Scripture calls Him God in the first verse, in the second it honors him with a royal scepter. Christ was anointed not with oil made of material substances, but with the divine oil of gladness, indicating that His honor is far superior to and different from that of those who, as types, were anointed in a material way.
