• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

    基督與召會
    生命與建造
    那靈與新婦

    As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

    May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

One excerpt from Augustine’s Confessions

Then what are Thou, God?

Highest, best, most powerful, omnipotent,
Most merciful yet most just,
Most hidden yet very near,
Most beautiful yet most strong,
Most stable yet most incomprehensible,
Unchangeable, yet all-changing;
Never new, never old;
all-renewing,

Ever active, ever at rest;
Still acquiring, yet lacking nothing;
Supporting, filling, and overspreading;
Creating, nourishing, and maturing;
Seeking, yet having all things;

Loving, yet not inflamed;
Jealous, yet not disturbed;
Regretful, yet without remorse;
Angry, yet serene;
Changed Your works, Your purpose unchanged;

Never in need, yet rejoice at gains;
Never greedy, yet demanded interests on what is owed to Thee;
Overpaid to become a debtor,
Yet who can pay Thou anything which is not already Thine?
Thou owed men nothing,
Yet paid out to them as if in debt to Thy creature.
Thou honored debts without owing,
Canceled debts without losing.

Yet, O my God, my life, my holy Joy,
What, with all this, have I said?
What can anyone say when speaking of Thee?
But woe to them who keep silence–
Even those who say most are dumb.

Excerpted and paraphrased from 2 versions of Augustine’s Confessions
Book One: Childhood, Chapter 1. How To Begin? Paragraph 4.
