    基督與召會
    生命與建造
    那靈與新婦

As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

What does it mean to be a Christian?

To be a Christian doesn’t mean mean to follow certain teachings or doctrines but means to follow Jesus Christ. If we were born 2000 years ago, to be a Christian we need to go to where Jesus was and follow where He went. But now the Lord has become the life giving Spirit, dwelling in each of His disciple’s spirit. Yet we can still learn many principles from what the Lord said. Here are some key principles in following the Lord as revealed in Matthew:

1. Leave the background and the old life behind

Matthew 4:18-22
And while He was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And He said to them, Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men. And immediately leaving the nets, they followed Him. And going on from there, He saw another two brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. And immediately leaving the boat and their father, they followed Him.

2. Leave the dead and death behind

  • Leave the people in spiritual death behind.

Matthew  8:19-22
And a scribe came near and said to Him, Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go. And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of heaven have roosts, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. And another of the disciples said to Him, Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said to him, Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.

3. Take up the cross

  • Give Christ the headship

Matthew 10:38-39
And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his soul-life shall lose it, and he who loses his soul-life for My sake shall find it.

4. Deny the soul life

  • Become Christ-centered instead of self-centered

Matthew 16:24-26
Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his soul-life shall lose it; but whoever loses his soul-life for My sake shall find it. For what shall a man be profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul-life? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul-life?

5. Be a fisher of men

  • Bring more people to Christ

Matthew 4:18-22
And while He was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And He said to them, Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men. And immediately leaving the nets, they followed Him. And going on from there, He saw another two brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. And immediately leaving the boat and their father, they followed Him.

6. Live an impossible life

  • With God, all things are possible.

Matthew 19:21-26
Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come, follow Me. But the young man, hearing this word, went away sorrowing, for he had many possessions. And Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you, Only with difficulty will a rich man enter into the kingdom of the heavens. And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And when the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, Who then can be saved? And looking upon them, Jesus said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

7. Share His throne at His second coming

Matthew 19:27-28
Then Peter answered and said to Him, Behold, we have left all and followed You. What then will there be for us? And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that you who have followed Me, in the restoration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you also shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
