• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

    基督與召會
    生命與建造
    那靈與新婦

    As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

    May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

Old Testament quotes in Romans chapter 10

The Apostle Paul knew the scripture so well; in writing the mere 21 verses of Romans chapter 10, he quoted 11 verses directly from the Old Testament, piecing God’s words together to express a clear thread of thoughts:

Christ is the end of the laws not to those who does them but to everyone who believes. This Christ, who has incarnated as a Man, also descended to the Hades for our redemption, then resurrected and ascended to the Heaven. Today, Christ as the life-giving Spirit is near us, even in our mouths and hearts. He is rich to those who call upon His name and “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!”

Christ as the gospel needs to be proclaimed over the whole earth, and we need to be those who preach the good news. Everyone shall hear the gospel but not everyone will receive. Ultimately it is the Lord’s mercy and grace that turn and save people.

1 Brothers, the good pleasure of my heart and my petition to God for them is for their salvation.

2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to full knowledge;

3 For because they were ignorant of God’s righteousness and sought to establish their own righteousness, they were not subject to the righteousness of God.

4 For Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to everyone who believes.

5 For Moses writes concerning the righteousness which is out of the law: “The man who does them shall live by them.”

Leviticus 18:5 So you shall keep My statutes and My ordinances, by which, if a man does them, he will live; I am Jehovah.

6 But the righteousness which is out of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, Who will ascend into heaven?” that is, to bring Christ down;

Deuteronomy 30:12 It is not in heaven that you should say, Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us to make us hear it and do it?

7 Or, “Who will descend into the abyss?” that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of the faith which we proclaim,

Deuteronomy 30:14 But the word is very near to you, even in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.

9 That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

10 For with the heart there is believing unto righteousness, and with the mouth there is confession unto salvation.

11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes on Him shall not be put to shame.”

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says The Lord Jehovah: Indeed I lay a stone in Zion as a foundation, A tested stone, A precious cornerstone as a foundation firmly established; He who believes will not hasten away.

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all and 1crich to all who call upon Him;

13 For a”whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Joel 2:32 And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah shall be saved; For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem will be an escape, As Jehovah has said, Even for the remnant Whom Jehovah calls.

14 How then shall they call upon Him into whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe into Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without one who proclaims Him?

15 And how shall they proclaim Him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who announce the news of good things!”

Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Of him who announces peace, who brings news of good things, Who announces salvation; Of him who says to Zion, Your God reigns!

16 But not all have obeyed the gospel, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”

Isaiah 53:1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of Jehovah been revealed?

17 So faith comes out of hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes surely: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth and their words to the ends of the inhabited earth.”

Psalms 19:4 In all the earth their line has gone forth, And their words to the end of the world. In the heavens He has made a tent for the sun,

19 But I say, Did Israel not know this? First, Moses says, “I will provoke you to jealousy by them who are not a nation; by a nation without understanding I will anger you.”

Deuteronomy 32:21 They have made Me jealous with a non-God; They have provoked Me to anger with their vanities. Hence I will make them jealous with a non-people; With a foolish nation I will provoke them to anger.

20 And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”

Isaiah 65:1 I let Myself be inquired of by those who did not ask for Me, And found by those who did not seek Me. I said, Here I am; here I am; To a nation that was not called by My name.

21 But with regard to Israel he says, a”All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a people who disobey and contradict.”

Isaiah 65:2 I have stretched out My hands all day long To a rebellious people, Who walk in a way that is not good, After their own thoughts;
