• Christ and Church Life and Building Spirit and Bride

As a lover of Christ and a pursuer of truth, I write down my joys, memories and reflections.

May God lead us all into the secret of His presence, and build us into the oneness of His body in love.

Feeling thankful at the end of 2015

Thank you Lord Jesus for year 2015. Indeed you are gracious and beyond my praises.

I thank you for giving us a healthy baby.

I thank you for healing of my aunt from her illness.

I thank you for the marriage of my sister.

I thank you for giving me a new job.

Lord Jesus, I thank you for who You are and for everything you have given and provided to us. Amen.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both.

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

When my heart grows

My heart grows

when its center shifts from myself unto God

when it treasures the unseen more than the seen

when it discards earthly pleasure and pursues heavenly vision

when it seeks the light of truth than my own gains

My heart grows

when it knows Christ is my captain, not myself

when it realizes that Christ is my only cure to my incurable self

when it learns the secret to trust Christ rather than my strength

when it is empty before Christ, even when I have known Him

My heart grows

when it cheers for others’ success that I don’t share

when it does not expect others to do what I expect myself

when it does not judge what I consider unrighteous

when it is not provoked, even when there are good reasons to

My heart grows

when it despises my pride, even when I feel capable

when it would not discard a path because it is less traveled

when it is filled with love of God, not with self-love

when it abandons the need to feel superior than others

My heart grows

when it is honest even when being not truthful is easier

when it desires righteousness over popularity

when it speaks the truth in spite of its harsh sound

when its choice is not always the less suffering one

My heart grows

when I love my neighbors as myself

when I care others’ need as mine

when I labor not because of recognition

when I desire to be serving than be served

Lord Undo Me – by Blake Williams

I don’t really worship these day
I don’t really stand up to praise you with songs
Or prayers or actions
or with anything
I am full of all the right moves
I am full of all the right words
I am full of all the right religion
But it is all just illusion
I am really
Too religious
Too realistic
and well really just to lazy
to worship you anymore
I have lost my first love
I have lost the joy of your presence
But most of all I have lost the fear of your glory

Father I need to see you again
Like Isaiah I want to stand in awe of your glory
To fall down at your feet
To come face to face with your
I want to stand before you and see you for who you are
and me for who I am
I want to be undone

I want to know me for who I really am
I want to see the depths of my heart
And know that you are the only way
You are the only truth
You are the only life
I want to see me and understand
What it really must have taken for you to
Love me
Care for me
See me
Speak to me
Want me
Communicate with me
Die for me
Die for me
Die for me

Lord, I want to stand in that place where all I can see is your glory
And my sin
Because in that place I can’t help but worship you.
Lord let me come undone
Undo my heart
Lord, undo my heart
break down these walls that I love so much
No, wait don’t,
I’m scared I don’t know if I can handle this
But I can’t live this way anymore
I can’t stand here in this half-life
this going through the motions life
this not really alive life
Father, I need you so come in and do what you must
Cut out the tumor on my heart
Break down the walls that I love
Lord let me come undone
Undo my heart
let me worship you again

A Steve Jobs’s quote

You know, one of the things that really hurt Apple was after I left John Sculley got a very serious disease. It’s the disease of thinking that a really great idea is 90% of the work. And if you just tell all these other people “here’s this great idea,” then of course they can go off and make it happen.

And the problem with that is that there’s just a tremendous amount of craftsmanship in between a great idea and a great product. And as you evolve that great idea, it changes and grows. It never comes out like it starts because you learn a lot more as you get into the subtleties of it. And you also find there are tremendous tradeoffs that you have to make. There are just certain things you can’t make electrons do. There are certain things you can’t make plastic do. Or glass do. Or factories do. Or robots do.

Designing a product is keeping five thousand things in your brain and fitting them all together in new and different ways to get what you want. And every day you discover something new that is a new problem or a new opportunity to fit these things together a little differently.

And it’s that process that is the magic.

Though Steve Job was speaking of designing a product in the physical realm. I learned a few things that can be applied to building up the church in the spiritual realm.
  • There is a need for use to have a vision. (The church as the body of Christ.)
  • There is a gap between a vision and its end goal (the New Jerusalem).
  • The realization from a vision to the end product (new requires skills (gospel preaching, laboring, eldership, shepherding, perfecting, prophesying, etc.)
  • The skills required to build up the church is not some kind of textbook knowledge or some formula that can be applied without considering the practical situation. The skills required are learning to depend on the living Christ to discern each situation and people, and act according to the Lord’s leading and presence.
  • This is because Christ is the only and chief builder of His body, and He alone knows people’s heart and expose all the situations.

What I learned this weekend

  1. I need to find and reaffirm my identity as a Christian. Determining one’s identity simplifies a lot of decision making.
  2. I am an adult in the church life now.
  3. I should have a sense of ownership for the church.
  4. Christ and the church is my top priority.
  5. Be a brother with a spirit to take the first-row and to shoulder the ark in the church life.
  6. Time management is important; Prioritize according to the following: God, marriage, family, and work.
